Congratulations to Michelle Bujak Belzowska and Luke McCoy for being announced as August/September 2025 Senior of the Month.
Schaumburg High School is proud to recognize Michelle Bujak Belzowska as the September Senior of the Month. Michelle has embraced the spirit of our school and, in doing so, has established herself as an exceptional leader, scholar, and mentor in the SHS community. Her presence is felt not only through her achievements but also through her dedication to lifting up those around her.
Over the past four years, Michelle has consistently demonstrated her ability to be disciplined, compassionate, and determined in all that she does. Academically, she is among the best, having earned recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction and receiving the Saxon Pride Award twice. She approaches her studies with remarkable focus and balance, managing her responsibilities with maturity while setting a strong example for her peers. Her commitment to excellence is evident in the way she prepares for and engages with her academics, ensuring that she is always well-positioned for success.
Outside of the classroom, Michelle has immersed herself in a wide range of extracurricular and leadership opportunities. She has been a dedicated member of the varsity tennis team all four years, contributing to the athletic spirit of Schaumburg High School. Her leadership shines brightly in Operation Snowball, where she began as a participant her freshman year and then went on to serve as a leader for the following three years. Through this program, Michelle discovered the importance of building connections and the powerful impact she can have on the lives of others, a lesson that continues to guide the way she interacts with her peers and her community.
Her leadership extends further as president of the National Honor Society, where she has guided peers in both academic excellence and service to the community. She is also an active member of the Student Athlete Leadership Team and HOSA, reflecting her interest in both athletics and medicine. Michelle’s dedication to service is evident beyond the walls of SHS as well—she volunteers at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, gaining meaningful experience in the medical field, and serves as a peer science tutor at SHS, helping others succeed in their studies.
Michelle’s future is as bright as her high school legacy. She plans to pursue a major in Biochemistry with a minor in Economics on a pre-med track, with the ultimate goal of becoming a pediatric trauma surgeon. Her resilience, compassion, and relentless work ethic will undoubtedly serve her well as she continues on the path toward medical school and beyond.
It is not only Michelle’s drive for academic excellence nor her many leadership roles that will define her future, but also her humility, her ability to prioritize what truly matters, and her passion for supporting those around her. She has already left a lasting legacy at Schaumburg High School, and there is no question she will continue to do the same in the years to come
Congratulations to Michelle Bujak Belzowska on the well-deserved honor of being named Schaumburg High School’s August/September 2025 Senior of the Month.
Luke McCoy is recognized as a dedicated and resilient role model across Schaumburg High School, excelling in the classroom, numerous extracurricular activities, and the greater Schaumburg community. Over the past four years, Luke has challenged himself with advanced coursework across many departments at SHS, bringing thoughtful insights to class discussions and helping foster a positive learning environment for peers and staff alike. Recognized for his work ethic and humility in all his endeavors, Luke consistently seeks thorough understanding. As an AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of National Honor Society, Luke pairs academic ambition with humility and a steady presence that raises the level of learning around him.
Luke’s leadership at Schaumburg High School and in the community can be seen in many different areas, including as a Peer Mediator, LIFT Mentor, Spanish Honor Society member, and St. Alexius Youth Board volunteer. However, Luke’s passion and accomplishments may be most on display through his musical involvement. As a percussionist, Luke has shown outstanding determination and achievement, playing snare drum in the Saxon Band Marching Band for the past four years and performing in the SHS Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra for the last three years. Luke is also an accomplished guitarist, performing in the SHS Variety Show and in the SHS Jazz Ensemble since his freshman year and being featured as a guitar soloist in the Saxon Marching Band’s 2024 halftime show. In addition to being a member of the District 211 Honor Band, Honors Orchestra, and SHS Tri-M Music Honor Society, Luke has been a percussion section leader for the SMB since his junior year, making invaluable musical contributions while also serving as a mentor for students. Luke has expanded on this commitment to helping his peers as a senior, serving as an intern for this year’s Cadet Band and Secretary for the Band Leadership Team.
Outside of SHS, Luke has earned numerous accolades and continues to expand on his drive to serve others through music. As a guitarist in the School of Rock Schaumburg House Band since 2018, Luke has performed in over 30 shows a year in the Chicagoland area and volunteered hundreds of hours mentoring young musicians. This past summer, Luke toured the Midwest with the School of Rock AllStars, a distinction reserved for the top 1% of musicians in the program worldwide. Luke has also been accepted and participated in pre-college programs at New York University, Belmont University, and Johns Hopkins University for music therapy, guitar, and neuroscience.
Looking back at his time at SHS, Luke reflected on a significant injury he sustained sophomore year that required multiple surgeries. However, rather than focusing on the hardship he endured, Luke reflected on the deep support he felt from his teachers and classmates as he worked to recover. This is the epitome of Luke McCoy and his success as a leader and scholar, focusing on hard work and positivity to reach goals that were previously thought insurmountable.
Looking ahead, Luke plans to attend a four-year university and explore the intersection of music and neuroscience, aiming to blend his creativity, academic drive, and care for others in work that will leave a positive impact on the world. Luke’s combination of scholarship, musicianship, service, and determination is an incredible asset to our SHS community and sets a remarkable example for current and future Saxons.
Congratulations to Luke McCoy on the well-deserved honor of being named Schaumburg High School’s August/September 2025 Senior of the Month.
