Congratulations Esees Kaur Komal and Josephine Mascarenhas for being announced as December 2022 Seniors of the Month.
We are proud to announce Esees Kaur Komal as SHS's Senior of the Month.
From the moment Esees walked through the doors of SHS, Esses has immersed herself in aspects of our school and larger communities. Her goal has been to improve the lives of others - which has been exemplified through her many actions and initiatives. Despite taking on so many initiatives, Esees still continues to be a top-performing student and embodies the many qualities we strive to build in our students.
Esees is the epitome of being goal oriented. As one of Esees’s teachers stated, “Esees is extremely bright, dependable, and goal-oriented.” The same teacher added, “Ability is important, but dependability is critical. With Esees you get both, which makes her a truly special student.” Esees works with the highest degree of integrity, and her actions and words always align. While at Schaumburg High School, Esees has been Co-President of the National Honor Society, president of JSA, a Student Ambassador, an AP Ambassador, a Wellness Committee Member, a member of the Principal Advisory Board, a Schaumburg Science Club member, and on the SHS Track Team. She has also led two workshops on the Indian Farmers Protest for the Schaumburg community. Her maturity and time management skills allow her to maintain focus on her goals. Through her intelligence, work ethic, and high character she always positively influences the community she is a part of. She has a genuine drive to help others.
Esees’s goal is to run for political office someday so she can better the lives of others. She plans to major in political science and business management with a minor in journalism. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind she will accomplish this. As much as she will be missed here at SHS, we are all just as excited to see the amazing impact she will have on the world!
Congratulations, Esees Kaur Komal, on being named Schaumburg High School Senior of the Month!
We are proud to announce Josephine Mascarenhas as SHS's Senior of the Month.
Josephine Mascarenhas is an incredibly motivated student leader at Schaumburg High School, excelling both in the classroom and in numerous extracurricular activities. Throughout the past four years, Josephine has challenged herself with a rigorous academic courseload across nearly all subject areas. She brings valued insights to class discussions and helps foster a collaborative atmosphere for learning among her peers. Josephine is recognized throughout our school for her unwavering dedication and positive outlook in the face of challenges. She embraces hard work and consistently invests the time and energy required to reach her goals.
Josephine has been highly successful in several areas beyond the school day. She has been a member of the Badminton team since her freshman year and represents the program on the Student Athletic Leadership Team. Josephine is currently a member of the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Student Ambassadors, highlighting the breadth of her interests and involvement. She also serves as an officer in National Honor Society (Vice President) and Junior State of America (Publicity Director). Outside of Schaumburg High School, Josephine is involved in her church community and volunteers at a local animal shelter.
While a leader in many different capacities, Josephine’s greatest co-curricular accomplishments have come from her involvement in the SHS Band program. A three-year member of the Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble, she has earned numerous accolades for her musicianship, including selection into the District 211 Honor Band and multiple perfect scores at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Festival. She is always willing to contribute in whatever way benefits the ensemble, resulting in her versatility as a performer on soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophone. As a junior, Josephine was selected as principal baritone saxophone in the ILMEA All-State Honors Band, recognizing her as the top classical baritone saxophonist in the state of Illinois. As a senior, Josephine was selected as principal baritone saxophone in the ILMEA District 7 Band and will again be performing at the Illinois All-State Festival this upcoming January. As a three-year drum major for the SHS Marching and Pep Bands, Josephine is an inspirational and compassionate student leader, well respected by her peers for her musicianship and willingness to help others however she can. She is truly team-oriented, never seeking individual recognition but instead working toward and celebrating the accomplishments of the entire group. As a senior, Josephine was elected President of the Band Leadership Team and also serves as an intern with the Symphonic Band.
When asked about her many accomplishments in high school, Josephine stresses the importance of finding classes and activities that interested her. She notes, “While it may be difficult at times to balance all of my extracurriculars with school, I know I love to do everything on my calendar, which is why I tend to have more motivation to set aside the appropriate amount of time for every event.” Upon graduation, Josephine plans to major in music education and teach at the high school level. We look forward to following her continued success in the years to come.
Congratulations, Josephine Mascarenhas, on being named Schaumburg High School Senior of the Month!
