Schaumburg High School is proud to recognize Prajeet Basu as March 2021 Senior of the Month
Prajeet Basu is recognized as an outstanding role model in the Schaumburg High School community. Taking on challenging coursework since his freshman year, Prajeet is driven by a strong curiosity and love for learning across many diverse subject areas. He brings a positive outlook to all of his endeavors and is well respected by peers and adults alike for his dedication, reliability, and sense of humor. Prajeet has earned recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction and an IHSA Interscholastic Achievement Award recipient. With all of his successes and accolades throughout high school, Prajeet has never become complacent and simply keeps working to learn, grow, and help others.
Prajeet has demonstrated excellent leadership through his extracurricular and co-curricular involvement at SHS. A four-year member of the band program, Prajeet has played oboe in the Wind Symphony and baritone saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble since his junior year. He earned multiple Division I “Superior” ratings at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Festival (including “Best of Day” recognition in 2020) and has been a two-year saxophone section leader with the Saxon Marching Band. As a senior, he was elected Secretary of the Band Leadership Team and has been instrumental in planning and implementing programs this year. Prajeet also holds the rare distinction of being selected for the 2020 and 2021 District 211 Honor Bands on two different instruments, placing him among the top oboists and saxophonists in our area.
As a member of the soccer, tennis, chess, and math teams, Prajeet has made a significant impact on each of these organizations (particularly as a junior varsity soccer and chess team captain). As a member of the National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society, he has also sought out opportunities to assist in the SHS community and perform at local retirement homes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Prajeet has regularly volunteered to help distribute food to members of our community in need through the Chicago Food Depository.
When asked how he stays motivated, Prajeet reflects that he always makes time for the things he enjoys (specifically, reading and music). Prajeet finds that by working consistently, he does not need to set incredibly strict deadlines and is able to stay on top of his work. Prajeet comments that his efforts have shown him that hard work can open up new opportunities and life experiences. Upon graduation, Prajeet plans to major in mathematics. We look forward to following Prajeet’s continued success at the collegiate level and beyond.
