Academic Support

  • At Schaumburg High School, we pride ourselves in providing academic support for all students, both inside and outside the classroom in order to enhance student successes.  While students are always encouraged to seek assistance from their academic teacher, a variety of resources are available for students seeking additional supports.

    ●     Advanced Placement Resource
The AP Resource room provides a safe and quiet space for students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses to study, collaborate, and network. We strive to facilitate healthy stress management skills and encourage mutual success among the students in these courses.  Our goal is to support both the academic and emotional needs of our students by providing a collegiate-like setting for the students to work, decompress, and flourish.

    ●      Athletic Study Hall
Student-athletes may be assigned to an Athletic Study Hall if their grades fall below the district standard. This study hall is designed to give your child a quiet work environment and access to additional resources to support academic success.

    ●     Counselor
Students work with their counselor to develop a personal academic plan based on their interests and goals.  In addition, counselors assist in connecting students with academic supports in the building through the Problem Solving Team process. Parents can contact counselors with general questions about course offerings, academic supports, standardized testing, and course rigor.

    ●      Problem Solving Team (PST)
Each PST consists of an administrator, counselors, and a psychologist or social worker.  This team format provides an opportunity for staff to collaborate and to provide support for students in the areas of attendance, behavior, social-emotional, and academics.  Teams meet weekly to review data and identify necessary supports. For additional information on the Problem Solving Team process, please contact your student's counselor or administrator.

    ●      STAR Lab (SAT/ PSAE Prep)
Located in Room 5, the STAR Lab works with students to target aspects of their standardized test-taking to be improved upon. Using a variety of resources & strategies, the STAR Lab analyzes results from activities, lessons, and practice tests to provide an individualized approach to SAT preparation for each participant; ultimately providing improved test-taking efficacy and scores.

    ●     Study Hall
All students are assigned a Study Hall where they can quietly do work or seek other academic supports in room 224. This is open to any student looking for a quiet place to study or work or seek educational support advice.

    ●     Tutoring
Tutoring in various subjects is available before, during and after the school day.  Students are able to drop in for extra support as needed to ensure academic success. The following table shows specific times and locations where these supports are available.  Students are always encouraged to talk to their teachers about specific issues in their class.
