Schaumburg High School is proud to recognize Raj Patel as January 2021 Senior of the month
Academically, Raj is an exceptional student; he volunteers in class and shares his insights, he asks questions, and he contributes to discussions in meaningful ways. Because he has such high expectations of himself, Raj also reaches out to better himself as a student and thinker on a regular basis. An AP Scholar with Distinction as well as a Questbridge Finalist, he is intelligent, driven, and committed.
Perhaps what really makes Raj stand out is his always compassionate and contemplative nature. He volunteers at St. Alexius Medical Center, the Trickster Cultural Center, and at the Schaumburg Library tutoring younger children. Not only is he a deep thinker, he feels deeply as well. His balance is refreshing and will serve him well as he moves forward into his next stage of academic life and then goes on to share his talents and passion with others.
When asked to reflect back on positive impacts during his years at SHS, Raj recalls, “Mr. Byrne taught me to lighten up and enjoy what I am given. With so much stress and anxiety produced by high school, Mr. Byrne’s daily jokes and life lessons opened my eyes beyond just school. These are the moments that have shaped me…” He also attributes much of his success to realizing the importance of structure. Raj wisely states, “structure is critical - not only within an essay but also in life.” With humility, Raj looks back and recognizes that the road to success has given him both regrets as well as valuable learning opportunities; the fact that he has overcome and taken advantage of those opportunities is a tribute to the remarkable person Raj is.
