Schaumburg High School is proud to recognize Alan Medina as August-September 2021 Co-Senior of the Month

Alan Medina- Senior of the Month - Aug-Sept 2021

Alan Medina is a highly motivated student leader in the Schaumburg High School community, showing extraordinary dedication to both academics and extracurricular activities. Challenging himself with a variety of accelerated and Advanced Placement coursework, Alan brings unique insights to class discussions and shows great curiosity across multiple subjects. He is recognized by his teachers and peers alike for his incredible work ethic and commitment to personal knowledge and growth. However, Alan rarely settles for his own success, consistently working to help others reach their fullest potential as well.

Some of Alan’s most significant accomplishments have come through his co-curricular involvement in music at SHS. A four year member of the Band program, Alan currently plays saxophone in the Wind Symphony, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Combo, as well as serving as a Drum Major for the SHS Marching and Pep Bands. Alan brings outstanding commitment to each of these groups, offering his time to mentor younger students on a regular basis. Beginning his freshman year, Alan organized his own jazz combo of students from Schaumburg and Conant High School called the Swingin’ 7, which continues to perform at multiple community events throughout the northwest suburbs. Alan has been recognized with Division I “Superior” ratings at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Festival each of the past three years and has been involved in both the SHS Variety Show and Musical. As a junior, Alan earned a selection into the ILMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble, recognizing him as one of the top jazz saxophonists in the state. As a senior, Alan was elected to serve as President of both the Tri-M Music Honor Society and Band Leadership Team, where he continues to give back to the SHS music community.

Alan has taken full advantage of his time at SHS by becoming involved and taking leadership in numerous extracurricular activities. He has been a state qualifier for Business Professionals of America and a staff member for Operation Snowball, as well as a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Student Ambassadors, and WYSE. Seeing a need in the student community, Alan also co-founded two clubs at SHS: the Events Club, which has created positive social spaces for students after school, and Latinos Unidos, which provides opportunities for students to share their culture and experiences within the SHS community.

Reflecting on his accomplishments in high school, Alan states that it is important to know your limits, enjoy what you do, and prioritize. He remarks, “I am motivated through the ability of helping my community, friends, teachers and peers through the best possible means as much as I can.” Alan notes that he was particularly inspired to serve others by a senior who went out of his way to help him as a freshman. Alan states, “I wanted to become that positive impact that was meaningful to other people in any way I could, and it shaped the path I took for the rest of high school.” Alan is keeping options open for his future studies in college but knows he wants to help as many people as he can. We look forward to following his continuing success in the years to come.

Congratulations, Alan, on being recognized as Schaumburg High School’s August-September 2021 Co-Senior of the Month!

Schaumburg High School is proud to recognize Araha Uday as August-September 2021 Co-Senior of the Month

Araha Uday- Senior of the Month - Aug-Sept 2021

We are proud to announce Araha Uday as Senior of the Month.  Throughout her years at Schaumburg High School, Araha has proven to be a leader both in the classroom and out. She has achieved  high levels of academic achievement despite the time that she devotes to many outside activities.  She has successfully balanced a strenuous academic load with significant volunteer activities both within as well as outside the school. Araha’s hard work, coupled with her willingness to help others, has distinguished her as a worthy recipient of this recognition.

In the classroom, Araha’s success has been extraordinary in its scope.  She has achieved high marks in many disciplines, and constantly challenges herself in a variety of subjects. Her success has spanned diverse academic fields, which is a testament to her hard work and drive to succeed. Araha has been recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction, both testaments to her significant academic achievement. She is the Co-President of the National Honor Society, a recognition by her peers of both her academic success as well as her leadership abilities.

Araha’s extracurricular involvement is felt throughout the school day. She has participated in athletics as a four year member of the Varsity Golf team, as well as a significant number of clubs. Her coach describes her as “The most unassuming young lady I know!” She is active in Speech, BPA, National Honor Society, and Principal’s Advisory Board. She is more than just a member of those clubs, as she has volunteered for – or been selected – for leadership positions in virtually all of her activities. Additionally, Araha has founded and led a Schuamburg chapter of the Junior State of America,  a non-partisan organization that seeks to encourage civic engagement among young people. Motivating others to public service and engagement is a strong motivator for Araha. Unlike so many, however, Araha seeks involvement not because of what the groups can do for her, but rather because these opportunities provide her the chance to serve others. Araha is happiest when she is engaged, and her energy and drive are exceptional among the student body.

On the personal level, Araha’s enthusiasm for life and significant work ethic have earned for her the admiration of her peers. She has embraced her high school years with enthusiasm, and is truly a leader among the student body. Araha notes that her highlight of student life was her discussions with other students in JSA, finding that the respectful discussion about real world issues strengthened her hope for our future.

Araha Uday is truly an extraordinary person who contributes positively and selflessly in any situation she encounters.  She shines in her academic performance, and she freely shares her gifts with others. As Mrs. Hinojosa states, she is “Sophisticated, fair, honest, talented, approachable, coachable, genuine  and down to earth.” Araha is an involved and talented individual, and we are proud to announce her selection as Senior of the Month.

Congratulations, Araha, on being recognized as Schaumburg High School’s August-September 2021 Co-Senior of the Month!
