The Madrigal Troupe of Hoffman Estates High School includes twelve singers, two Jesters, a Wench, and a Recorder Consort, whose members are selected by audition in the spring for the following school year. Rehearsals begin in August and continue through the year until March. They perform almost entirely Renaissance music of the 1500’s and 1600’s. Their costume are from the Mid 16th century Late Renaissance style. For the Madrigal Dinner, the troupe increase to include a Town Crier, Pages, a Lord and Lady, Madrigal Court, a Brass Ensemble, and a String Ensemble, as well as servers, vassals, and a tech crew. The Madrigal Troupe performs approximately twenty-five performances a year, including a full weekend each fall at the Olde English Faire at Stronghold Castle in Oregon, Illinois. This festival, at which the HEHS Madrigals have performed now for thirty-nine years, draws hundreds of guests to Stronghold Castle. They have also performed at a variety of charitable functions. During the holiday season, they perform at many civic and community events in the surrounding area.
