National Honor Society
-
The overall goal of the National Honor Society is to help students further develop their leadership skills, while providing service towards others. Junior and senior students are eligible to apply to NHS if they have a 3.0 GPA or higher at the end of their sophomore or junior year. The selection process involves students completing an application focused on their service and leadership within the school and surrounding community. Active members are then expected to provide 20 yearly hours of community service towards the school and the community. Some examples of community service hours are: the HEHS Halloween Community Event, and Feed My Starving Children.
The faculty council evaluates each candidate, with input from other staff members, in the areas of service, leadership, and character. When the evaluation process is complete, each candidate is notified whether or not he or she has been granted membership.
