Emergency Preparedness

  • The safety of the school environment where your children spend much of their day is a top priority in District 211. Since September 11, 2001, District 211 schools have reviewed and updated safety procedures and ensured the coordination of our efforts with other local officials. School administrators and crisis team officials from Palatine, Schaumburg, and Hoffman Estates have met to review procedures and make additional preparations in case an emergency situation warrants.

In the unlikely event of an emergency situation involving schools, school administrators will take the necessary precautions and will communicate closely with police, fire, and health departments to ensure the safety of students and staff. For emergency information, parents are advised to listen to the radio or television, log on to the District 211 (www.d211.org) and school websites, or monitor District 211 and school social media sites.  Please try to avoid calling the school as this will tie up emergency telephone lines.  Additionally, it is requested that parents refrain from coming to the school as this can interfere with emergency personnel and equipment.  You will receive information from the sources listed above on the place and time you can reunite with your children.

While no one knows for certain when and where an emergency situation will arise, please be assured that the safety of students and staff is our main concern. If you would like additional information on how you can prepare your family for an emergency situation, local officials have recommended these web sites: American Red Cross (www.redcross.org) and U.S. Department of Homeland Security(www.ready.gov). Ultimately, the best preparation is a well-informed community and a coordinated agency response. I thank you for your cooperation as we take these precautionary actions on behalf of our children.
