Student Attendance
Students are expected to participate in school every school day. When the District is observing the Hybrid or Remote scenario teachers will take attendance near the beginning of a class period and again near the end of the class period. Students’ presence or absence will be reflected in the attendance record. The school will take appropriate follow-up action to resolve a student's unexplained absence from classes.
Parents should call the school’s attendance office to report their child’s absence from school and provide the reason their child will not be attending school. Staff members will inquire about the details of any reported student illness to note the presence of symptoms consistent with COVID infection. The names of students with such symptoms will be provided to the school nurse to follow up.
Supports Available
Know that District 211 social workers, psychologists, and guidance counselors are available to speak with you or your son or daughter. Amid the unique challenges of these times, it is important that everyone remain vigilant about the social-emotional health and well-being of students. If you have any concerns about your son or daughter, staff members are ready and available to assist.
Zoom Links for Connecting Remotely to Classes
Teachers will establish Zoom links and will post their Zoom links on each course’s Schoology page.
Afternoon Academic Support Sessions
As part of the 2020-2021 school year scheduling scenarios, District 211 schools are offering students the opportunity to participate in additional learning experiences called Afternoon Academic Support. Afternoon Academic Support provides students with access to specific course assistance, small group tutoring, and, when possible, hands-on laboratory experiences. Every academic department has developed learning experiences to support the courses offered. The supports will be offered virtually and, when possible, in-person at school.
Some support options are general in nature, such as math tutoring labs, reading and writing support, or quiet study areas. Other supports are specific to selected courses that include specialized content and may include access to science labs or the use of specialized manufacturing equipment. Department-specific experiences will be offered Monday through Thursday during the afternoon block noted on each student’s daily class schedule.
A variety of Afternoon Academic Support sessions begin Monday, August 24. Most experiences will be hosted virtually; however, some opportunities for in-person academic support also will be available. Starting Monday, August 24, in-person Afternoon Academic Support sessions will be available for Career Technical Educations classes (business, family, and consumer sciences and applied technology departments), along with ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Additional in-person opportunities are planned to begin in the upcoming weeks.
Afternoon Academic Support sessions will have a limited number of available seats. Students must schedule appointments for all afternoon sessions, both virtual and in-person, using SignUpGenius, an online appointment scheduling system.
Afternoon Academic Support Information
Daily Wellness Screening Survey
In-person Afternoon Academic Support Sessions will utilize strict health and safety guidelines including 6-foot social distancing between participants. Every student attending an in-person afternoon academic support session must complete an online wellness screening survey at home prior to traveling to school. Students will receive a link to the wellness screening survey in the appointment confirmation email. More information about the District 211 wellness screener is available here. Additionally, only students with confirmed appointments through SignUpGenius will be allowed to enter the school, and upon entering the school, each student’s body temperature will be scanned to verify fever-free status. Students who do not complete and pass the at-home wellness screener, do not have an appointment, or are not fever-free, will not be admitted to the school.
Transportation for Afternoon Academic Support Sessions
Students who have an appointment for an in-person academic support session may provide their own transportation or take a bus to school. Mid-day bus routes will be available each day that sessions are offered to bring students to school for scheduled academic support appointments. Bus information can be found in the Infinite Campus parent and student portals. Students intending to ride the mid-day bus should report to their assigned bus stop 15 minutes after the end of period 4 on both A and B school days.
Meal Bags
Meal Options During Hybrid Learning
With the transition to hybrid learning, District 211 food & nutrition services will continue to offer meal bags for students during remote learning. Meals will be available to all students at no cost this school year.
