Poetry Club and Slam Team

The Poetry Club and Slam Team are interest groups for students who want to write, develop, share, and perform their personal poetry. The club meets weekly and they perform at Arts Alive and for English classes at the Poetry Showcase in April. There are also optional open mic nights. Separately, tryouts for the slam/spoken word team are in September, and these individuals compete in area slam competitions through Young Chicago Authors’ Rooted & Radical Youth Poetry Festival, the largest teen poetry slam competition in the world.
