Course Selection Materials
Incoming freshmen will be placed into specific English, Math, and Science courses based on recommendations from 8th grade teachers. Most freshmen at Palatine High School will participate in two self-selected elective courses. Elective courses provide students the opportunity to pursue special interest areas within the academic curriculum.
A critical part of your child’s transition to Palatine High School is the selection of elective courses your child would like to participate in during 9th grade. Elective courses provide opportunities for your child to learn about specific areas of interest that may relate to future choices of college majors or career fields.
You will indicate your child’s elective course requests using an online interface accessed through the District 211 Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please log on to the Parent Portal using the individualized account you recently established with the activation key that was mailed to you in late October.
Once logged on, click more and then click D211 Elective Course Selection under Quick Links. Indicate your child's two elective course requests, plus one alternate course. Alternate courses will be used if schedule conflicts prevent another course request from being honored or if elective course prerequisites have not been met. All requests are due by Wednesday, December 16th, 2020.
In late January, you will receive a notice confirming your child’s placement in English, mathematics and science courses. The notice will also confirm the elective courses that will be included as part of your child’s freshman year course schedule.
For information about specific courses, you can refer to the District 211 Curriculum Guide.
