The Higgins Education Center provides a centralized location for Township High School District 211 to serve three different education programs for students who have some exceptional needs. These programs include Academy-South, one of the district's alternative school programs; the Adult Transition Program-South, which provides instruction and community-based experiences for 18- to 21 year-old students with cognitive disabilities; and New Endeavors, a program designed to serve students who demonstrate behaviors and characteristics along the autism spectrum. In addition to these three education programs, the Higgins Education Center also provides a facility for the the district's Community School, an after-school program that provides a range of social services and support to assist families in the District 211 and School District 54 area.
