MISSION
The vision is designed to support students with an individualized education plan (IEP) by using the Circle of Courage tenets to provide students with the key elements for academic success. This resiliency model provides students the opportunity to adjust to change and recover from adversity or challenge, fostering an environment that promotes the following:
Belonging: Through a caring and supportive community in which trust, acceptance, and respect is present. (I am important to somebody).
Mastery: Developing achievement by offering access to opportunities, setting high expectations, and being receptive to new ideas. (I am able to solve problems).
Independence: Encouraging decision-making, problem-solving, and personal responsibility. (I am in charge of my life).
Generosity: Experiencing the power of giving by making positive contributions to others. (My life has value).
LEARNING
Academy North students are provided therapeutic support each week through group and individual counseling. Topics include: anger management, problem solving, problem identification, school improvement, social skills training, vocational and goal setting.
One of the primary goals of the program is the reintegration of the student into the home school environment whenever appropriate. The IEP team reviews each student’s progress at conferences, which are scheduled as often as needed, but no less than once a year.
Reintegration may be recommended on a part-time or full-time basis. If no progress has been made towards reintegration, alternatives are considered.
