Energy Conservation has become an integral part of High School District 211’s operating policy. District 211 students and staff have worked hard to integrate energy conservation into their day-to-day activities. Not only does it reduce costs for electricity, natural gas, and water, but those efforts contribute to reductions in carbon dioxide emissions and have a positive impact on the environment. The District’s efforts over the years have resulted in reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 200,000 metric tons. As a comparison, an equivalent reduction would be to eliminate over 12,700 automobiles from the roadways. Similarly, the same reduction could have been accomplished by planting 1.8 million trees.
