Welcome Class of 2023!
Welcome to Conant High School! Every school year presents an opportunity for the Conant High School community to provide students extraordinary opportunities, innovative teaching, and exceptional learning experiences. From the very first day of high school, the administration and teachers at Conant High School work to ensure students are preparing for their post-secondary goals. We depend on our entire school community to work together to create a successful education experience for our students.
The Freshman Transition Guidebook is designed to help you navigate the pathway to freshman year. Please review this guidebook for details about placement testing, elective course selection, immunization requirements, and other critical components related to starting high school.
Your child’s journey to high school begins with the enrollment process. Enrollment materials (detailed on Page 2 of the Freshman Transition Guidebook) are due to Conant High School no later than Tuesday, October 9, 2018. If you did not receive an enrollment form, please download a blank form here.
Course Selection Materials
A critical part of your child’s transition to James B. Conant High School is the selection of elective courses your child would like to participate in during 9th grade. Elective courses provide opportunities for your child to learn about specific areas of interest that may relate to future choices of college majors or career fields.
You will indicate your child’s elective course requests using an online interface accessed through the District 211 Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please log on to the Parent Portal using the individualized account you recently established with the activation key that was mailed to you in late October.
Once in the portal, click the link titled “D211 Elective Course Selection” on the left side of your screen. You will use the interface to indicate two electives plus an alternate request. The deadline to indicate elective course requests is Wednesday, December 19, 2018.
In late January, you will receive a notice confirming your child’s placement in English, mathematics and science courses. The notice will also confirm the elective courses that will be included as part of your child’s freshman year course schedule.
For information about specific courses, you can refer to the District 211 Curriculum Guide (https://adc.d211.org/curriculum-guide).
All 8th graders planning to enroll at Conant High School for 9th grade are required to take the PSAT 8/9. Results from this assessment will aid in the placement process and determine eligibility for mandatory summer school. The PSAT 8/9 will be offered on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Please see additional information in the Freshman Transition Guidebook. Students may submit enrollment materials on the day of the placement test. Materials will be copied and returned to students prior to dismissal.
