Drivers Education
The Driver Education program consists of 30 hours of mandatory classroom instruction. This program fulfills the State of Illinois safety education and District 211 graduation requirements. It stresses development of skills, attitudes, and knowledge designed to make every student a safer and more skillful driver. Optional behind-the-wheel experience is available to the student for a fee. (Enrollment governed by the date of the student’s 16th birthday).
Because of irregular schedules, students may not be able to benefit from bus service.
Key Dates:
- April 27, 2026: First day students can go to Student Services to get a permit application.
- May 4, 2026: First day students can return to Student Services with a valid permit and request a seat for the course. After the seat request is processed, parents must pay for the course prior to the section being assigned. As seats are limited in each time slot, students will be able to rank the order of their preferred time slot and location when turning in their valid permit.
Course runs from June 3rd through July 9th (one week shorter than regular summer school).
Course Times/Schedule:
- Palatine High School: 9:25 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
- Conant High School: 9:25 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
- Conant High School: 1:30 p.m. - 4:35 p.m.
- Schaumburg High School: 1:30 p.m. - 4:35 p.m.
*Afternoon sections are only open to students who have a D211 course already scheduled during the morning summer school session or once the 9:25 - 12:30 slots have filled.

- Prerequisite for Semester 1: Department chair or teacher recommendation. The first semester of this course covers trigonometry for students preparing to take M449 AP Calculus AB the following fall.
- Prerequisite for Semester 2: M408, M438 (1st semester), and department chair approval. The second semester of this course covers limits, derivatives, and applications of derivatives in preparation for Advanced Placement Calculus coursework in the fall. Second semester requires a graphing calculator. Students enrolled in this class during second semester Summer School must be recommended to be enrolled in M449 or M479 for the fall. Final placement will be determined by their Summer School teacher.
In the study of trigonometry, the student applies algebra and geometry skills to circular and periodic functions and rotational velocity. Additional time is spent on extending the trigonometry identities in the first semester. The second semester study of calculus is no longer limited to those preparing for careers in mathematics and the sciences. The need and demand for students in business and social studies who can design procedures, predict and relate the principles of higher mathematics are increasing dramatically. This course emphasizes the applications of differentiation. It is the first of three semesters of college-Level calculus and satisfies the requirements for the first semester of calculus suggested by the Advanced Placement Program of the College Entrance Examination Board. This course requires use of a graphing calculator.
