Private Stephan Bonilla

Private Stephan Bonilla, a 2015 Hoffman Estates High School graduate, is currently serving in the National Guard, and will depart for combat training in July. He has been invited to this evening’s meeting to honor him for his service to our nation, and recognize him as a Hoffman Estates High School graduate. Private Bonilla will lead those in attendance at the meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Daily Herald
sponsored its 14th-annual Academic Team for 2014-2015. This honor recognizes high school students who have consistently excelled in their studies, as well as made a contribution to their schools through academic activities. High School District 211 had five students named to the 10-member first team: Kevin Chang from James B. Conant High School; Haenah Kim from Hoffman Estates High School; Soumyaa Mazumder and Jennie Yang from William Fremd High School; and Melissa Tran from Schaumburg High School. These outstanding students have been invited this evening to receive Board of Education recognition.

James B. Conant High School student Lisa Yang achieved a 36 on the American College Test (ACT) examination, the highest possible composite score, and have been invited to receive Board of Education recognition for this outstanding achievement. The ACT, which is taken by nearly 60 percent of America’s college-bound students, is comprised of tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning. Each test is scored on scale of 1-36, and a student’s score is the average of the four test scores. On average, less than percent of all ACT test takers earns a top score.

Ryoka Lulu Matsuno

James B. Conant High School art student Ryoka Lulu Matsuno earned first place in the 2015 Congressional Art Competition. Her original artwork, entitled “Tokyo,” will be displayed for the next year as part of an exhibit at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. This elite award highlights Ryoka’s dedication and artistic vision. James B. Conant High School Art Teacher Jamie Peterson will assist with this evening’s recognition. (See artwork)

Students who have earned honors in the 30th-Annual Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Competition have been invited this evening to receive Board of Education recognition. These students worked as two-person teams to diagnose and repair numerous “bugs” that were placed in an automobile to simulate real-world problems.

Tanya Katovich

Hoffman Estates High School Science Teacher Tanya Katovich has been named the 2015 Davidson Award recipient, an honor presented annually by the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois and the Illinois Chemical Education Foundation to the outstanding chemistry teacher in the state. Mrs. Katovich has been invited this evening to receive Board of Education recognition.
